Every day is a new opportunity to give and receive love, to forgive, to initiate a new event in our daily lives, or to close a chapter from the past. It is a chance to practice gratitude, offer selfless help, and so much more. The list of possibilities is endless. There are countless opportunities for growth and change are abundant – we just need to recognize them.
We can treat these as a chance to step out of our comfort zones, do something for ourselves, and be stronger after overcoming challenges. Each experience adds to our strength, preparing us to face future tasks with greater ease and confidence. Along the way, we can also practice self-love, choosing not to stay in situations not right for us.
Turning to ourselves and others with love can bring balance and happiness into our lives, but it all starts with self-love.
We can only give when we have something to give. Without it, we risk falling into burnout.
In his first letter to the Corinthians, Apostle Paul wrote about love: no matter how much knowledge we possess, how wise we are, how eloquent we may be or how great our wealth is – even if we give away all we have – without love, it all amounts nothing. Through love, we are patient and kind to ourselves and others. This feeling leaves no room for envy, boasting, or falsehoods. Love believes in all things, hopes in all things, and never fades.
Love allows us to experience joy and share it with others. When balanced, it can continuously enrich our lives and set an example for those around us. Embracing our true selves and our feelings is not always easy, but it is worth the risk.
Selfless love may encounter resistance from the ego. The ego may remind us of past events or pains we have not processed or push us toward the future by setting goals. It resists change and balance, creating uncertainty and diverting our attention from the present. However, it can also teach us what is not real in life, making it a valuable guide.
